Manchester United Transfer News: Alvaro Morata, Ethan Galbraith

Alvaro Morata to Manchester United has been one of the most consistently pervasive transfer rumor narratives this summer.

We’ve seen plenty of reports indicating that this deal was on the verge of closure, and the Real Madrid striker himself has dropped some hints on his social media accounts that he might be on the move quite soon.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez made remarks today indicating his club is actually not in negotiations over Alvaro Morata. He did however maintain his awareness that his representatives could be in talks.

“I believe we are not negotiating with Manchester United, which does not mean that there are not people around him who are talking, which is normal,” Perez told El Primer Palo.

“I have read that we have reached an agreement for I don’t know how many million euros, but it is not true.”

Reports in both the Spanish and English press claim an agreement in principle has been reached, but the two sides are still haggling over the price. The coverage everyday despite no real news to announce yet is already getting tedious, and we’re probably not even close to seeing this one finalized yet. Eight days ago Perez refuted a claim made by the agent of Morata that United have placed a bid.

It’s becoming reminiscent, especially given the two teams involved, of the David de Gea transfer saga of two summers ago. We are at the point where you just have to check in every single day to see what’s going on.

-Manchester United can officially announce one addition today though. They are set to bring on Northern Ireland Under-17s captain Ethan Galbraith.

The Ireland Football Association writes that:

“The 16-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Red Devils and will travel to Old Trafford this weekend to sign on the dotted line. The Glengormley teenager’s contract includes an initial one-year scholarship and then a two-year pro deal.”
