You knew that Jurgen Klopp returning to Borussia Dortmund with his Liverpool club would see some metaphorical fireworks. In an extremely emotional evening, there some literal fireworks during the 1-1 draw between BVB and LFC too.
It looks like those fireworks have gotten the club in additional trouble right now.
Here’s Monday’s update via The Guardian.
Liverpool and Dortmund have already both been charged by Uefa for offenses in the first leg in Germany; the former for fans letting off fireworks and the latter for stairways being blocked.
The Merseyside club also face charges of illicit chanting, setting off fireworks, throwing objects and more general crowd disturbances by their fans from the second leg of their previous round against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
United were charged with crowd disturbances and throwing objects, in addition to blocked stairways.
The charges that Liverpool are facing in that Europa League contest with Manchester United at Old Trafford pertain to egregiously offensive chants. Here’s more on that at this link. United is also facing potential punishment for the actions of their fans in that contest.
The Liverpool FC supporters made chants invoking the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, while the United fans referenced the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster to provoke the LFC fans.
