Liverpool and Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah faces a race against time to be fit for the 2018 World Cup, and it looks like progress is going well so far. In a little over two weeks time, Egypt will open group play in Russia against Uruguay on June 15.

Salah has publicly expressed his confidence that he’ll back on the pitch in time. The Premier League and PFA Player of the Year suffered a ligament damage to his left shoulder during Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final this past weekend.

The Egyptian collided with Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, who flashed a sinister smile upon seeing Salah leaving the pitch in tears. It was an extremely tough moment for neutrals watching the game, because Salah seems to be one of the game’s overall good guys. His heroics have even inspired fans to convert to Islam.

As you might expect, there is a massive backlash brewing right now against Ramos. A change.org petition calling for Ramos to be reprimanded for his actions has close to half a million signatures after just three days!

Getting back to Salah, his convalescing seems be going swimmingly so far. Spanish television program El Chiringuito has shown exclusive footage of the Premier League record breaker now getting along without his arm in a sling:

You may be asking, why is he in Spain of all places? The Egyptian FA released a statement saying Salah traveled to the nation dominating the Iberian peninsula in order to be with Liverpool’s medical staff where he will undergo intensive rehabilitation work “for the duration of the treatment period” in order to have the best possible chance of playing with the Pharaohs at the world’s most massive tournament.

Additionally, former Liverpool man and Uruguay superstar Luis Suarez has said that he really hopes Salah will be able to his face his side in their opening World Cup match.
