Liverpool have had an active summer transfer window thus far, bringing in both Dominic Solanke, a Chelsea cast off, and AS Roma Winger Mohamed Salah this summer. Solanke has a lot of long term potential, but likely won’t make much of an instant impact this season. Salah broke the club transfer fee record, previously held by Christian Benteke, and he will tremendously upgrade the final third.
There will some more new players added this summer, but who will they be? Today, the transfer gossip is linking Liverpool to Kylian Mbappe and Naby Keita. Mbappe is one that’s been linked to the Reds for a couple weeks already, but Keita is narrative that’s rather new.
Regarding Mbappe, many teams are interested, including the big boys, so he’s a player that could end up breaking Paul Pogba’s world transfer fee record. According to Sky Sports: “Liverpool are interested in signing Kylian Mbappe but they are not convinced that he wants to move to England. The Reds are monitoring the situation and have registered their interest in the player.”
Real Madrid are among the other clubs keen on the AS Monaco man.
In regards to Keita, The Guardian writes that: “Liverpool have been handed encouragement in their attempt to sign Naby Keïta from RB Leipzig, although the German club have indicated that they are not prepared to allow the Guinea international to leave for less than £70m.”
That is certainly a very high price tag, but remember a.) the transfer market in general continues to be further inflated this summer and b.) the Reds will have more money to spend this summer because they’ll have the added revenue from returning to UEFA Champions League now.
Overall, the main goal for Liverpool this summer transfer window is to reshape the roster into one that will help them overcome their struggles against lower table teams. If Liverpool consistently wins these games, they would develop into league title front runners.
