Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp says a lot of summer transfer window work is getting done “behind the scenes” at Anfield right now. He also maintains that the club is being patient in working out their deals, and his public expression of this sentiment is likely a plea to Liverpool supporters to share his patience.
LFC broke their club transfer fee record in the acquisition of winger Mohamed Salah from AS Roma, and they also picked up Dominic Solake, who was out of contract at Chelsea. Other than that, it’s been quiet this summer at LFC, with the Virgil van Dijk pursuit ending up going horribly wrong.
It is worth noting however that most of the Premier League big boys have only made one major signing this summer. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have only brought in one major new addition up to this point. Overall, it hasn’t been the most exciting or interesting summer transfer window, which officially opened for business on July 1. Obviously, clubs and agents have been making deals for weeks and months prior.
“Of course the transfer market opened a few days ago,” Jurgen Klopp said in an interview given to the official website, Liverpoolfc.com.
“Yes, it will be a difficult one, maybe it’s getting more and more difficult, especially in England but we have made a lot of good things so far. If you cannot see it so far, you can imagine we have done a lot of things behind the scenes.
“Sometimes you need to be patient and that’s what we are in the moment — to wait for the right moment and then we will see what happens.”
The Reds have been heavily linked to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but that likely looks like it’s just smoke, no fire. They have also reportedly been in pursuit of Naby Keita, Kylian Mbappe and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Maybe these specific deals will not get done, but it’s clear that more transfer buys are coming.
Klopp is boasting here that progress, the kind unseen by the general public, has already been accomplished on that front.
