It’s been arguably the most interesting January transfer window of all time, and naturally, it comes to an exciting climax on deadline day! Wednesday brought the other two dominoes from the Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang deal between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.

Michy Batshuayi becomes Aubameyang’s replacement at BVB, as Chelsea now send him out on loan for the rest of the season. In their eagerness to get the deal done, Arsenal agreed to pay the loan fee. The transfer window chain reaction is now complete, as all three deals are now official.

According to the Evening Standard:

Batshuayi’s loan to Dortmund was key to the triple deal going ahead and sources in Germany claim that Arsenal had upped the original agreed price by another £1.3m in the past 24 hours.

That is the sum the Bundesliga club are suggesting Chelsea have demanded to take Batshuayi for the rest of the season, meaning they will effectively get him for nothing – apart from meeting his weekly salary.

BVB confirmed news of Batshuayi’s arrival with only 10 minutes to go before the German transfer deadline closed this evening. According to reports, Dortmund do not have the option to buy the Belgian international at the end of the loan deal.

“In order to achieve my big objective, I want to play as much as possible and score many goals,” reads a quote attributed to Batshuayi on the club’s official website.

“The World Cup is taking place in the summer.”

Batshuayi was buried on the depth chart at Stamford Bridge, so he simply was not going to get the playing time he needed at Chelsea in order to secure his place on the Belgian national side for Russia this summer. Perhaps he will get those opportunities now in the Bundesliga.

We’ll have more on the Aubameyang deal shortly. For more on Giroud go to this link.
