When you’re the Premier League’s second leading scorer and you’re coming off a record-breaking, story-book season, everyone wants a part of you. Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelroy’s record for consecutive games with a goal and won the league title with the Foxes during 2015-16. Arsenal triggered his £22 million release clause, and he’s reportedly undergone the first part of his medical for the Gunners.
However, this deal is far from closed right now. Leicester have made a counter-offer, and they’re holding out hope that the prolific scorer will stay put.
Arsenal still remain confident that Jamie Vardy will be making the move to the Emirates however. According to sources at ESPN FC, Jamie Vardy “was considering his options on Monday as he prepared to fly out to France with his England teammates ahead of Euro 2016, but a source close to Arsenal expressed confidence that he will commit to the transfer.”
Current Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud said Vardy wants to join the North London club, and that he’s excited about the idea; not worried about competition for playing time.
Arsenal are also reportedly after Vardy’s teammate Riyard Mahrez, the reigning PFA Player of the Year. What a tremendous story that would make if Arsenal were to carry out a stunning double raid on the Premier League Champions by signing the Foxes’ two biggest and brightest stars.
