Manchester United and Liverpool will renew their rivalry, in preseason friendly form, on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The match will take place in Michigan Stadium, nicknamed “The Big House,” home to Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan Wolverines college football team.
This will be “an event” to say the least and Harbaugh is certainly excited about it. In past years, Harbaugh has visited with the soccer/football/futbol teams that have played in the big house, the stadium with the second largest capacity in the entire world.
In 2016, Chelsea sent a club attendance record when they took on Real Madrid in the Big House. It was also the second most attended soccer match on U.S. soil ever. The first? Also at Michigan Stadium in 2014 when Madrid was in the house again, with Manchester United the opponent.
Although these matches were just friendlies, they still draw more fans than any World Cup or Olympic matches held in the U.S.
Perhaps Saturday could see a new attendance record emerge?
“Yeah, really would love to see it,” Jim Harbaugh responded when asked during Big 10 Media Day if he has plans to attend the big game on Saturday.
“So plan on going to the game and each year made it a point to go over and talk to the players and coaches.
“I know they’re busy too, but it’s always good. Inspiring. And always learn a couple things, which is good.
“We’re excited to have them.”
