The “Carlo Ancelotti to replace Jose Mourinho at Chelsea” narrative has been running wild in the tabloids for a few days already. Jose Mourinho has two games to save his job, club sources have told ESPN FC with Carlo Ancelotti interested in taking over even on a temporary basis.
On a basic common sense level, this all really all adds up nicely. The Carlo Ancelotti replacing Mourinho at Chelsea story line is like doing a proof in high school geometry class.
Remember those? If A holds true, then B holds true. And if B is true, then C must also be true. Eventually, you get your theorems, postulates, rules, laws and equalities to all add up into the finished product.

Let’s take a look at four things we already know to be true and that when amalgamated, could eventually equal Carlo Ancelotti as the next Blues boss.
1. He’s won there before
You can’t get a job without experience, right? Ancelotti is one of the few men alive who has experience winning trophies, let alone managing at Stamford Bridge. From July 2009 to May 2011, he won 61.4% of his games at Chelsea, including the 2010 Premier League title. He also lead Chelsea to their first ever League/Cup double. He’s got a personality and an ego to match the size of the job.
2. Chelsea don’t seem to have a problem with re-treads
The current incumbent Chelsea Manager is in the midst (or near the end, as most are speculating now) of his second go-around. Therefore, we know Chelsea is willing to go back to the same well. Almost every hiring decision is “all about who you know” anyway.
Most employers prefer to hire someone whose number is in their contacts folder whenever they can.
3. The timing is just too perfect
Ancelotti just said earlier this month that he’s looking to get back into managing, and he also said that he’d like that return to be in the Premier League. He desired a sabbatical after his back surgery, but now seems convalesced and ready to return to management.
On the flip side, Mourinho supposedly will be sacked if Chelsea lose their next two games.
4. There’s no better fit among available candidates
Unquestionably, there’s no bigger name available right now than Ancelotti. Especially with Liverpool scooping up Jurgen Klopp. You could argue that Chelsea should have sacked Mourinho earlier, so they could have had a shot at Klopp, but it’s a little too late for that now.
Chelsea is a world class gig, and it requires a candidate with a world class pedigree- that’s Carlo Ancelotti.
