Time for your daily David de Gea and Sergio Ramos updates. It’s a never ending soap opera like Arturo Vidal was last summer. Will De Gea stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Same question regarding Ramos (just reverse the teams). The two players’ potential transfer moves are inter-twined now.
This storyline has been going strong since May, but it looks like it could be resolved very soon. Real Madrid have confirmed their signing of a new goalkeeper; thus diminishing the likelihood that they’ll acquire David de Gea this summer.
The Spanish giants announced the signing of goalkeeper Kiko Casilla on a five-year contract from Espanyol today. Casilla moves to Real in a €6m transfer just days after Los Blancos sold club icon Iker Casillas to Porto. Casillas had been with Madrid for 25 years.
ESPN FC reports that Casilla will back up Keylor Navas this season. The deal is a huge boost for Manchester United; as it further cements the idea that De Gea is staying at Old Trafford this season. As for next year, when De Gea’s contract is up, that’s a different story for a different time. Real Madrid could bring De Gea back to his hometown on a free transfer then.
As for Sergio Ramos, he assumed the captaincy role with the ten times champions of Europe once Casillas left it vacant. It would be difficult to fathom Real Madrid selling the team captain, and then selling the next team captain who took his place right after he left.
Still there have been reports United are still bidding on Ramos.
The Daily Express published reports that United made a final offer of £42 million for the Defender today.
