First and foremost, this is a story/interview podcast about football; world football more so than American football. The primary reason we’re here is to talk Spurs, and not the kind from San Antonio. Before we talk Tottenham and the English Premiership, we need to get some injury news and updates out of the way.

A serious knee injury kept Northwestern Wide Receiver and Tottenham Hotspur supporter Christian Jones from playing at all during the 2014 college football season.  Now, an issue in the same joint could keep him playing in the 2015 season. According to WildcatReport.com, Jones underwent surgery recently to repair torn cartilage in his left knee (same knee where he tore his ACL last August.

Tomorrow is NU’s final spring scrimmage; the main practice that’s open to the public and televised on a regional cable network. Christian Jones spent this past spring practice on crutches, but the approximately four months required to be fully convalesce should have ready for the start of Camp Kenosha.

The Wildcats will need him, as he’s been the team’s best and most productive receiver during the past few years. He’s expected to be one of their primary weapons on offense this fall. In our podcast below, Christian Jones talks about his injury and rehab, towards the middle and end of the file.

(Bear in mind this interview was done on the practice field this past weekend in Evanston, so apologies for the wind noises)

Have a listen as Christian Jones talks Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, the benefits of possibly making Europa League and how he became a Tottenham supporter. Jones also talks about the upcoming summer transfer window and how the rumored Spurs targets would help or hurt the side.

“I’m hoping we gets the Golden Boot and he’s up for Young Player of the Year, he deserves it. He’s the top goal scorer next to the guy who bought up from Atletico Madrid,” Jones said about Harry Kane.

“He’s playing better than anyone expected. Even if he scored five less goals, it would be still be a great season for him. He’s been playing out of his mind I hope he keeps it up,”

Kane was on field with the Chicago Cubs to throw out the first ball at Wrigley Field by the way.

Jones also gave his thoughts on Morgan Schneiderlin, Hugo Lloris, Emmaunel Adebayor, Memphis DePay and more.

Tottenham came to Chicago last summer to play the Fire in an international friendly and Jones was there. He attended the game along with the Chicago Spurs supporters group, who gather regularly at the Atlantic Pub. Jones watches matches at the Public House when he gets the chance. Jones’ teammate, Ifeadi Odenigbo, is a Manchester City supporter by the way, although that might have changed as Jones playfully points out.

It’s a fun podcast, so please listen to the entire audio. It’s well worth it.
