Former Manchester United and Everton player Gary Neville took temporary charge of Valencia in late November after first-team coach Nuno Espirito Santo quit. Today he was given the sack.

The member of the legendary Class of ’92 was joined by Salvador Gonzalez, an ex-Valencia defender known colloquially as Voro in the caretaker managerial role.

However, Neville was not able to get things fixed. During his 16 games in charge of Valencia, Gary Neville won just three games, drew five and lost eight. Los Che currently sit 14th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.

Former coach Pako Ayestaran now takes charge of Valencia until the end of the season.

Gary Neville was the second member of the famed Class of ’92 to gain caretaker managerial experience. Ryan Giggs led United for four games in the wake of David Moyes being sacked at the end of 2013-14.

It is thought that Giggs, currently an assistant under Louis van Gaal, could assume the United leadership position after Van Gaal’s contract expires in 2016-17. That is unless the job goes to Jose Mourinho.
