Credit Manchester United and England National Team Captain Wayne Rooney for stepping up and trying to take the heat. As you might have heard, somewhere along the line, (sarcasm font) United are struggling massively. They’re not fun to watch, they’re not getting results and the fans are upset. (It’s been in all the papers, and all over television)
You’ve also probably read a story or two online about how Manager Louis van Gaal is under fire. It’s gotten so bad that LVG has actually beefed up security at his home.
Wayne Rooney has taken it upon himself to try and deflect that heat away from his embattled manager. And that’s what true leaders do.
“It’s unfair to say it’s down to the manager — we’re on the pitch, so we have to take a lot of responsibility for performances and results” insists the Red Devils and Three Lions skipper.
“We have to stand up and take criticism when it’s there. We want to win, of course we always want to win, and we’re trying. But even when you’re giving 100%, it doesn’t always come off.”
“But thankfully against Derby it did and it was a good performance from the team.”
Although these comments likely won’t succeed in calling the dogs off LVG, you have to applaud Wayne Rooney for saying all the right things here.
