At age 16, Angel Gomes was named Manchester United’s Young Player of the Year last night to become the youngest award winner. He’s been a very highly rated prospect along the way as he’s progressed through the ranks of the club.
He further impressed the club this season, to the point that he was named to the senior team for the regular season finale at Crystal Palace.
This season has seen Gomes score 12 goals in 19 starts, making many key assists and overall become a key creative force for the team. FFD.TV, a website showcasing young, up and coming footballers, made a YouTube video showcasing the talent of Gomes.
You can see why Angel Gomes is wanted by Barcelona in the transfer market.
FFDTV made this offering which highlights his dribbling, quick feet, goals and assists for both club and country where he is also captain of England’s U17 side (currently unable to participate in the U17 Euros due to injury):
United Manager Jose Mourinho gave a press conference today previewing Crystal Palace on Sunday and the Europa League Final on Wednesday. In the session, Mourinho said this:
“We will have two keepers, Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara, and we will have Demetri Mitchell, Scott McTominay, Matty Willock, Josh Harrop, Angel Gomes, Zachary Dearnley, Axel Tuanzebe, so lots of them.”
“Are they ready? All together, no. One in the middle of a good and dynamic team maybe, but not all at once.”
“The only positive is for me to save my players and give him the opportunity for Wednesday.”
“For the kids, it will be a great experience — Old Trafford, Premier League, last match of the season, a good occasion. But I repeat, the best for a young player is in the middle of an experienced structure.”
“To play so many at the same time is not good against a team of experienced and strong players like Palace has. So many at the same time, they need my support. “We will bring the ones who I think are more adapted to our team at the moment.”

Survival Sunday Betting Odds (via Sky Bet):
Crystal Palace- 13/8 Draw- 23/10 Manchester United- 13/8
Match Prediction: United 1, Palace 0
I was really tempted to pick a draw here, given how meaningless this match is for both sides, but with United playing so many kids, my gut feeling is that a couple of them will treat this match like a trophy tilt and rise up to the occasion. After all, for many of these guys, it is the biggest moment of their professional lives.
Will Angel Gomes be one of the heroes? How much action will he see? In an otherwise mundane, pointless game, these are storylines worth paying attention.
