It’s another international break and thus, kind of a slow time when it comes to big headlines, but there’s still a whole lot of important Arsenal FC news items out there. Here are links to some of the more relevant United news stories currently circulating on the internet.
Manager Arsene Wenger trusts midfielder Jack Wilshere to be his new team captain, replacing current skipper Per Mertesacker when he retires at the end of this term. Wenger is granting the honor to Wilshere, who withdrew from the England squad this week due to injury, in spite of the the fact that the player’s future at the club is very much up in the air.
Wilshere has been at the club since age 9, but his current deal is set to expire in June and the north London side have only offered him a reduced salary.
“He (Jack Wilshere) was born here basically,” Arsene Wenger told Bein Sports.
“He has a long history with the club, strong link with the club. As well he is the kind of leader for his attitude and for his tactical knowledge on the pitch. Apart from his technical top qualities he has personality and is in the right place on the pitch, and now with the maturity to organize around him.”
“That’s why I played him central.”
“I just thought the combination of history, the fact that he’s a long term player for the club, the fact that he has experience and knowledge now, I trust now to make him captain.”
