West Ham United Antagonizes Mourinho, Tottenham on Social Media

This might be another case of a team’s social media manager getting in big trouble/perhaps even losing their job. The official West Ham United Twitter account welcomed Jose Mourinho back to the Premier League by posting a video, which was deleted less than two hours later, that trolled the newly minted Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The video featured clips and audio from recent West Ham United wins against Mourinho, from both his Chelsea and Manchester United days. It was captioned simply “See you Saturday, Jose” with a winking smiley face emoji.

So it’s easy to see why this was taken down right away (although NBC has a screen shot of it here), as the last thing you want to do is give your opponent bulletin board material ahead of a big match. If the Irons lose, then this stunt will make them look really foolish.

Sure, they minimized the damage by removing the post already, but what’s out there is already out there.

You knew the ultra-swift appointment of Mourinho to the job, just hours after Pochettino was sacked, would light up social media today, with all sorts of colorful takes.

We’ve seen quite a few memorable tweets, from all over the world, but no one expected an actual club’s account to get into the weeds on this one.
