Mauricio Pochettino said in the run up to the UEFA Champions League final that he would not discuss his own individual future until after the game. Now that it’s over, the result being a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, Pochettino has made public remarks hinting at where his future lay.
It seems he’s staying put, as he indicated his desire to guide Spurs back to the UCL final again. Pochettino has been been heavily linked with the open Juventus managerial job following the departure of Massimiliano Allegri last month.
However, according to reports that have surfaced within the last 48 hours, it’s the manager of another London club, Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri, who is set to take that gig.
Poch was asked if he would be around next season to lead Tottenham in the UCL next year.
“Always,” he responded.
“We have to try, we have to believe. We hope it will happen again as soon as possible.”
Pochettino then reaffirmed how happy he is right now at Tottenham, and how much he hopes to achieve in north London in the future.
“I am so happy to manage this group of players. Congratulations to Liverpool, they have a fantastic set of players and they’ve had a fantastic season,” he said.
“The standard are so high. It wasn’t enough today and it’s a shame. When you live this experience, you want to be again and you want to repeat. It is the best game in the world after the World Cup [final]. I hope we can repeat in the future.”
Mauricio Pochettino is still on the hunt for his first trophy since he moved to Tottenham in 2014.
