Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe missed out on France’s UEFA Nations League clash with Italy today, due to a left knee injury. The forward picked up the injury (which Real Madrid later confirmed is a hyperextension of the posterior capsule) in 1-0 win over Türkiye last weekend

He is not expected to feature again for France in this FIFA window.

While the injury is not considered to be severe, it is expected to sideline Mbappe for the next couple weeks or so, he it is strongly expected that he’ll miss out on Los Blancos’ first match out of the elongated international break, a home clash against Villarreal.

The hope is to have him back for the first El Clasico on Oct. 25, so the main focus, right now, is making sure he’s fully fit for that.

Elsewhere yesterday saw Madrid publish a new report on Raúl Asencio, who underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his right tibia. Thursday’s operation was successful, and Ascencio enjoyed a visit from his manager, José Mourinho.

Asencio will now begin the rehab process, with the Spanish defender set to miss at least the next four months. So with that timelinem, he could return to action at some point in February.

The former Liverpool center back, who was acquired this summer, has a knee ligament problem, but it isn’t considered serious. He may or may not returns against Villarreal. Even if he is deemed fully fit enough to feature against the Yellow Submarine, the club may adopt a more conservative approach.

After all, they want to get as many players right as possible for that massive match with FC Barcelona towards the end of this month.
