Manchester United club legend Ryan Giggs is making all kinds of news today for his opinions on global football topics. The first narrative revolves around his idea that his former club should play Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford at the same time, and just how much he has enjoyed watching the position battle between the two young stellar Red Devils forwards.
Secondly, Giggs a legend in Wales football history, has blatantly called out his countryman Gareth Bale and urged him to make some changes in his approach to the game of football, in order to avoid further injuries.
Bale, a Real Madrid star who has been consistently linked with a transfer to Giggs’ former club, is often under fire, especially from some Real supporters. The biggest knock on Bale has been his inability to consistently remain healthy, and it was on this dimension that Giggs took aim.
The man who was in service with United for 29 years sent warning to Gareth Bale, saying that he must make some adjustments to his playing style and his training, lest he risk further injury problems. Bale has been ruled out of Wales’ next two World Cup Qualifiers due to a calf muscle inflammation. That injury has been confirmed by Real Madrid.
“When you look at Bale and the physical specimen he is, he is always going to be putting his body under pressure,” Giggs told Sky Sports.
“Especially with the sort of challenges he comes up against from other players. With the injuries he has had and at the stage of his career, this is when you need to start addressing it. When you get to your late 20s it hits home that you need to start making changes. Everyone is different and I tried to cover every base with yoga, acupuncture, ice baths, but what might work for some players might not for others,” the former assistant manager under Louis van Gaal continued.
“You also have to adapt your game. You can’t play in your late 20s like you did when you were 19, but that experience means your brain is quicker and you can be more economical yet more effective.
“I was definitely more effective in games in my late 20s even if I wasn’t as quick.”
Spanish publication Marca reported that Bale was expected to be out of action for a month after scans discovered a new injury in the soleus muscle. Los Blancos have not set a time table for his return but Marca claims that he will be out for between three and four weeks. He is likely to miss the UEFA Champions League group stage clash against his former team Tottenham Hotspur on October 14.
