Matteo Darmian Officially Leaves Man United, Makes Move to Parma

September 2, 2019 By paulmbanks

Happy summer transfer window deadline day for most of Europe as Serie A continues to turn red. Defender Matteo Darmian becomes the latest current or former Manchester United player to make the move to Italy this  summer. Darmian has officially returned to his home land, joining Parma on a permanent deal, for a very very underwhelming figure of just £1.4 million; according to Sky Sports.

United paid £13 million for him four years ago, when they acquired the then 25-year-old from Torino- so you can calculate the massive depreciation rate there.

Buona fortuna, Matteo!

You got to feel good for Darmian though, as he’s been pushing for a move away from United, and back to his native country, for several transfer windows.

It’s finally happened now, and maybe he’ll get the chance for more playing time. A Louis van Gaal era acquisition, Darmian had a spell where he was a first team regular, but it didn’t last very long. Buried deep on the Red Devils depth chart, it’s really best for all involved he moves on.

In addition to Darmian, AS Roma struck a loan deal with for United central defender Chris Smalling over the weekend.

And today they announced the arrival, via loan, of Arsenal/former United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Meanwhile big money and very disappointing forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez (on a loan deal) joined Inter Milan this summer.
