Manchester United Pursuing Andrea Belotti, David de Gea Likely Staying

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho said he knows what he wants once the summer transfer window gets here and everyone knows it’s Antoine Griezmann. That’s no secret, and we covered that one already in detail over at this link. Who, besides the superstar Frenchman at Atletico Madrid, could be on their summer shopping list?

It’s been previously reported that United are looking for another forward, in addition to Griezmann. Perhaps, that forward is Andrea Belotti.

Via Bleacher Report:

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Torino to confirm their interest in signing striker Andrea Belotti.

Citing unnamed sources, ESPN FC’s Mark Ogden reported manager Jose Mourinho is interested in making the Italian one of two forward signings this summer.

Just last week, the Mirror said United are “closing in on Torino striker Andrea Belotti, but they will have to meet the £84 million release clause inserted in the 23-year-old’s contract last December.” Here’s a link to more on Belotti.

This is Manchester United, where they effectively print money. Even if they miss out on revenue from failing to qualify for UEFA Champions League, if indeed they do fall short, MUFC will still be raking in the cash, and they’ll have it bunches to throw around like a big timer this summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho (who just famously said that the club could miss out on Champions League and they would still be fine) will have the chance to spend money like water on acquiring new players. Just a few days ago, Mourinho made the promise that reinforcements will arrive this summer.

Additionally, it appears there will be an “own goal” of sorts with goalkeeper David de Gea likely staying.

Once again we cite ESPN FC, because after all, as you may have heard, tough times at ESPN right now. If you haven’t heard, we’ve chronicled it in detail here and here.

Via ESPN FC:

David De Gea is not pushing to leave Manchester United this summer, sources have told ESPN FC, despite being linked with a transfer to Real Madrid.

Last week, Spanish newspaper Marca reported De Gea had agreed personal terms ahead of a move.

But sources have told ESPN FC that De Gea has not indicated he wants to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

That’s good news, not make it great news. No one wants to relive the beyond tedious, ridiculously repetitive De Gea “will he or won’t he?” transfer saga of 2015 again.
