Yesterday was massive in the world of all things Cristiano Ronaldo as he was officially unveiled to the public as a new Juventus player. Ronaldo underwent his medical in full view of four doctors and finalized his move away from Real Madrid. Much of the football community wondered why he made the jump to Serie A instead of Manchester United.
Previously, there had been reports of Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores Aveiro, wanting her son to return to Old Trafford, but yesterday she disputed those claims.
“It’s a lie that I wanted him to return to Manchester United. It’s not true,” Aveiro told a group of reporters.
“I’m very happy with his choice. It’s a very happy day for all of us. My son will make Juve even bigger. This is a new adventure and a new life. He enjoyed it at Real Madrid but he needed other challenges.”
CR7 transferred from Real to Juve for a fee of £88 million. Ronaldo signed a four year deal that his agent, Jorge Mendes, claims will be his final contract as a player. As for why he didn’t move to United, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague says it’s because United manager Jose Mourinho didn’t want him.
In regards to why a switch to the Allianz Stadium was the correct one and a good fit for the world’s richest and most recognizable athlete, former United winger Ryan Giggs had a theory.
Giggs believes Ronaldo made the switch to Italy in order to further differentiate and distinguish himself from Lionel Messi.
