It’s another international break and thus, kind of a slow time when it comes to big headlines, but there’s still a whole lot of important Manchester United news items out there. Here are links to some of the more relevant United news stories currently circulating on the internet.
-Defender Phil Jones says that United will really miss Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he’s gone; for what he provided to the club both on and off the pitch.
“Zlatan has been fantastic. He’s one of the best characters I’ve played with. We’re going to miss him. He had a very good season last year and scored a lot of goals for us,” Jones said in an interview with United.no.
“Not only was he an important player on the pitch, he was also an important person in the dressing room,” Jones said. “I wish him good luck. He’s had a fantastic career.”
-According to the Daily Mail, Ibrahimovic will take a 95% pay cut now that he has left United and joined the Los Angeles Galaxy. Obviously, that figure is indicative of the drop off from the Premier League to Major League Soccer, but the reason the number is so stark is partially due to MLS salary bylines.
“The veteran Swedish striker was earning a huge £19million-a-year at Old Trafford, but has signed up to play for the Galaxy in MLS on a pay packet of just £850,000-per-annum. According to Marca, Ibrahimovic is not going to be one of the American club’s designated players, which restricts them to a wage limit of just $3.8m (£2.8m).”
-We’ve been here before, a key player injured during a meaningless match on an international break, a period with little to no fan interest. And now there are fitness concerns ahead of a league match this weekend:
“Ashley Young will be evaluated by Manchester United medical staff ahead of Swansea City’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday, sources have told ESPN FC.”
England played Italy to a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium last night, a friendly which saw Young injure his knee.
