UEFA announced that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool Football Club due to the attack made on the Manchester City team bus by Reds supporters yesterday. As the motor coach arrived at Anfield ahead of last night’s Champions League quarterfinal game, fans threw smoke bombs, flares, bottles, cans and other objects at the coach, and thankfully, no one on the bus was injured.
However, a window was smashed, and smoke entered the bus. It was rendered unusable, and the team had to find another way home from the game. Liverpool FC quickly issued a statement strongly condemning the hooliganism, and gave an apology to Pep Guardiola.
Here’s video of the bus arriving at Anfield, via the Instagram account of Manchester City coach Manel Estiarte:
Estiarte wrote in the comments section of this post: “No words. Unacceptable.”
That pretty much says it all. The disciplinary case against Liverpool will be heard by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31; five days after the Champions League final is played in Kiev.
