Everyone loves a good heated sported rivalry, but almost all of us know that in the grand scheme of things, it’s just a game. We all get spirited about our teams, but also know not to let our let our emotions get the best of us.
Here’s one man who’s the exception, not the rule. Liverpool supporter David Stoneman, 44, went into a fit of rage last January when Wayne Rooney scored the game winning goal, and Manchester United downed Liverpool 1-0. He took out his anger by punching his own nephew.
Then when the nephew’s mother’s boyfriend, an elderly man, tried to intervene, Stoneman punched him as well. Now he’ll get a year in jail for his crimes.
Raj Joshi, prosecuting, said: “The defendant punched the victim in the face with a clenched fist causing his nose and mouth to bleed.
“He required three stitches to his lip.
“This was an unprovoked assault on a young man in an argument over the score of a football match.”
This wasn’t Stoneman’s first offense either. He was already on a suspended sentence, as the Mirror informs us: “He was jailed for eight months for each assault – which will be served concurrently – and for four more months consecutively for breaching the suspended sentence.”
Just totally deplorable and completely unacceptable behavior.
