Liverpool Defender Crisis Worsens, Trent Alexander-Arnold Out a Month

Liverpool have suffered another major injury blow in the position group where they can least afford it- defender. The back line injury crisis deepens as right back Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered knee ligament damage in the 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday. Alexander-Arnold will miss at least a month, but potentially more due to this setback.

The Liverpool Echo reports that no surgery will be required but TAA will most likely be out for League fixtures against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth.

With Joe Gomez still sidelined due to a lower leg fracture sustained last month, the club has no official, designated right back on the roster right now. However, midfielder James Milner has already seen time at the position this season. According to reports, the club doesn’t have a recall option on their loan deal that sent Nathaniel Clyne to Bournemouth for the season.

Obviously, now would be a great time to have him back, and thus the loan deal seems like it was a wrong move now (but hindsight is always 20/20). It’s a possibility that we could see youngsters Rafael Camacho and Ki-Jana Hoever named to match day squads in the future, due to the injury crisis at right back.

Regarding the centre back issues, Dejan Lovren remains out while Joel Matip was only named to the bench this past weekend. He may not be fit enough for starters minutes yet. It’s likely we could see midfielder Fabinho play in a central defense role again this season.
