Jose Mourinho Says He Wants Two More Summer Signings

Manchester United may have just made the biggest acquisition of the summer transfer window last week, but Manager Jose Mourinho admitted they’re not done yet. United brought Romelu Lukaku over from Everton for £75 million, and his deal could potentially be worth £90 million if/when the add-ons kick in.

The Belgian striker joins central defender Victor Lindelof as United’s two signings this summer, and Mourinho says he wants two more.

“We’re not happy with just Lukaku and Lindelof. We need more. We wanted four, so 50 percent of the job done,” he said in Los Angeles, where the club is currently on their preseason tour of the United States. They’ll face the L.A. Galaxy of MLS in their first preseason friendly tonight.

“Everything is so difficult,” Mourinho continued at his first news conference of the summer, held at UCLA, where the team is currently working out.

“I would not like to be in Ed Woodward’s position in negotiations because it’s really difficult. Maybe we don’t get two, maybe we get one. We would like two more but at least one.”

Woodward, who sometimes joins the club on their overseas preseason exhibition tours, stayed behind in Europe this time, presumably to close the last two deals. The rumored targets are Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur and Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan.

Mourinho was hesitant to comment on another summer target, his former player when he was at Chelsea, holding midfielder Nemanja Matic

“I can’t say any word about another player- (Matic) is a Chelsea player. It’s difficult and a little bit same with (Real Madrid striker Alvaro) Morata.”

“Matic is a Chelsea player and I have to respect the player, the club and the club owner. We don’t have our door closed.”
