Jose Mourinho Calls Victory over Chelsea a “Special Performance, Special Opponent”

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho settled his score against his former club Chelsea today, and avenged a lopsided defeat that his club suffered earlier this season in October. He accomplished this with a masterpiece of tactical brilliance, where he kept coaching ’em up every step of the way, fighting hard the entire way.

He gave a lot of interesting answers in his post match press conference after the 2-0 victory that kept United’s hopes for a top four finish very much alive.

Move over EFL Cup victory because this was the signature win of Mourinho’s United tenure.

When Mourinho was asked if this was the biggest win of all during his time at United, he responded:

“I think we have had very good performances — Arsenal here, Tottenham here, when we played really well, but today I think was a special performance because it’s also a special opponent — the leaders, the way they play.”

Here’s the video of the whole media session-

“I think we played really well, a very solid performance. We gave them double problems. We gave them problems when they had the ball because we controlled very well and we gave them problems when we recovered the ball because we were really sharp and fast and aggressive in our transitions.

“So, I am very happy with the performance. Very happy.”

It was the first time Chelsea failed to get even a single shot on target in a Premier League game in 10 years. That contest, held a decade ago, was also at Old Trafford.

United are now unbeaten in league play over their last 22. Yet, they’re still on the outside looking.

“Normally you win the title if you are 22 matches unbeaten and we are struggling to finish top four.”

“Why? Everybody knows why because we lost too many points at home, but it’s a great feeling to know that it’s difficult for us to lose a match, people fight until the end.”
