Eden Hazard is no fence sitter- he’s declared a position in the world’s greatest modern sports debate. Sure, there’s Michael Jordan versus Lebron James, but that argument is probably only the undercard to the Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi main event.
“Of course, when you are playing football you want to play against the best,” Hazard told club web channel Chelsea TV. “The best team, the best players in the world.”
“Messi is the best player in the world,” the Belgian superstar continued.
I can’t imagine Ronaldo will be too thrilled about that; especially so given that ridiculously egomaniacal and braggadocio speech CR7 gave as he accepted his Ballon D’or award this year, an honor that put him level with Messi for the most ever. Messi came in second, and Ronaldo beat out his rival, as well as everyone else in the world, for FIFA The Best 2017 award.
However, it’s Messi, not Ronaldo who is the La Liga leading scorer and Barcelona, not Real Madrid are very comfortable ahead of everyone else in the Spanish top flight currently.
Eden Hazard and Chelsea face Lionel Messi and Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The Stamford Bridge leg will be February 20.
The return leg in Spain will be March 14
