Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is certainly ending his Reds career with a…well he’s definitely not going out on a high note that’s for sure. The 34 year old LFC skipper was sent off for stamping on Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera. Gerrard came on as a halftime substitute and was sent off after just 38 seconds in the 2-1 defeat to United.

Which led to him being a mockery across the social media, new media and traditional media world. For instance this Steven Gerrard image that trended worldwide today:

Gerrard, who will join LA Galaxy of the MLS at the end of the season, will now be suspended for three games. He has since apologized for his actions.

“I need to accept it; the decision was right. I’ve let down my team-mates and the fans. I take full responsibility,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.

“I don’t know what caused it. Probably just a reaction to the initial tackle [by Herrera].

“I shouldn’t say more about it really. I’ve just come out here to apologise to the dressing room and supporters.”
