Manchester United and England Captain Wayne Rooney, who surpassed by Sir Bobby Charlton on September 10th to take sole ownership of the Three Lions career goal scoring record, is doubtful for England’s final home European Qualifier with Estonia tomorrow.
Since Wayne Rooney scored goal number 50 on a penalty kick against Switzerland to become England’s all time top goal scorer, he’s been out of action for the national team. He returned to action in the Premiership versus Southampton, as his hamstring injury had healed by then. Rooney also broke his well publicized 1,000 minute Premier League goal scoring drought in that contest; with a gift goal totally set up by Anthony Martial.
What could keep Rooney out of action Friday night is an ankle knock that he picked up in the 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal. According to FOX Sports, Wayne Rooney “may well be rested in any case even if he recovers in time for the game,” and “will still receive his golden boot even if he does not play at Wembley.”
By the way, here’s the very emotional speech Wayne Rooney gave to the England dressing room upon achieving the scoring record.
