Wayne Rooney FINALLY scored his first goal in World Cup play. It took ten games and 759 minutes of play, but it was the only goal England scored versus Uruguay. The video is below ICYMI. Rooney also provided an assist in England’s first game versus Italy. In other words, he was accountable for both of the team’s goals in the World Cup thus far.
The all time leading scorer in Manchester United history is THE LAST person who should be scapegoated for England crashing and burning so badly in Brazil. He certainly doesn’t need to apologize, but he did.
A status update on Rooney’s Official Facebook page reads:
“Absolutely devastated to be out of the World Cup. Going into each game we had great belief in ourselves but unfortunately it hasn’t worked out. Sorry to all the fans that travelled and at home that we haven’t done better…gutted!”
In the first seven hours, the update was shared close to 2,000 times and “Liked” by 94,000 people.
England plays Costa Rica on Tuesday. However, it’s just an exhibition match as England is already eliminated and Costa Rica is already in. Liverpool scoring sensation Luis Suarez, showing he was plenty healthy enough to play, scored two goals for Uruguay, who sealed England’s fate. Of course, had the 28-year-old striker just nailed this-what-would-have-been-an-amazing header, maybe things would have been different.
