In the summer of 2015 we had to endure daily De Gea “will he stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid?” updates to the point that it exceeded egregious tedium. The whole repetitive soap opera ended fittingly with a fax machine snafu kiboshing the transfer at the midnight hour.
Shortly after the potential move crumbled, due to logistical failings, De Gea signed a long term deal to remain at Old Trafford. That said, we still might have to endure Edurne driven transfer speculation AGAIN this summer. Yes, the Spanish pop star girlfriend of De Gea is reportedly house hunting for the power couple in the Spanish capital, we learned this week.
While that may rekindle and then perhaps ramp up De Gea to Madrid talk, it’s also not something Los Blancos fans are all that keen about right now. Perhaps the overkill of the story, plus the laughable way in which it ended has soured them on the idea, but Real fans are less interested in getting the Spain #1 as United supporters are in keeping him.
Influential Spanish publication Marca polled readers on who they would want most want to see signed in the summer – and De Gea was down the pecking order.
He came in, with only 15% of the vote, behind Juventus’ Paulo Dybala (26%), Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund (both 16%).
The only entry in the poll to finish below De Gea was Monaco prospect Kylian Mbappe, who got 12%
