Forward Eden Hazard says he loves the style of play at Chelsea under new manager Maurizio Sarri. In the process of new praising Sarri, he also made digs at the previous two managers Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. When it was announced that Sarri would be coming over from Napoli this summer, Blues supporters were wary of the fact that he hadn’t won a single trophy.
At the same time, Chelsea fans were excited to see the fun to watch, attacking style brand of football that Sarri is synonymous with.
Hazard loves playing in this new system, which he described as “not bad,” and in doing so implied that the previous methods of Mourinho and Conte, were in fact bad.
“I like to have the ball. Not in my own half, but in the last 30 meters. I like this type of game, it’s completely different from Antonio Conte or [Jose] Mourinho before. Like I say, we have more of the ball so for me it’s not bad,” Hazard said in an interview with club publication Chelsea TV.
Stamford Bridge only made two major additions this summer, midfielders Jorginho (who Sarri brought over with from Napoli) and Mateo Kovacic (who moved over from Real Madrid on loan). Eden Hazard believes both players complement him perfectly.
“I think the big difference is we bring in two players, Jorginho and Kovacic, and they are completely different,” the 27-year-old Belgian continued.
“Of course, they want to keep the ball, we just try to keep the ball more often, and then when we have the chance to score we just need to score. But when we have more of the ball we can have more danger.”
“At the moment we are okay, we are winning games, I think we are playing good football, so I enjoy. I want to keep this momentum. The bad thing is now we go to the national team, we want to just keep playing with Chelsea and win games!”
Hazard scored yesterday against AFC Bournemouth to help the team achieve victory in all of their first four games. Liverpool is the only other side in the league to have done so. However, as long as today’s Watford-Tottenham Hotspur match-up doesn’t end in a draw, the winner of that match will join the Reds and Blues in this elite club.
