Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is a Liverpool football club legend, having served as the Reds vice-captain for a decade. He is the club’s second-longest tenured player (behind Steven Gerrard), having made 737 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions.
Carragher also holds the record for the most appearances in European competition for Liverpool with 150. Thus, it’s safe to say that he holds a lot of sway with the Liverpool community; and so when he absolutely trashed forward Daniel Sturridge, it was definitely significant.
It was sort of reminiscent of January 3rd, when Sturridge took an absolute beating on Twitter.
“When he plays and he doesn’t score you’re basically down to 10 men because he doesn’t offer anything else. The only reason to have him in the team is for finishing ability. He doesn’t do anything else in the game now…
“He’s had a really poor night and usually he finishes that. He’s a completely different player now to what he was when he first came under Brendan Rodgers. He used to give you penetration in behind and he had pace.
“I don’t know whether his pace has completely gone, or he’s worried about injuries — but his pace has gone. All he does is come to feet now.”
For a drastically different Sturridge view point, polar opposite from Jamie Garragher, here’s a link to what Gerrard had to say, and it’s in stark contrast.
