Tottenham Hotspur welcome Newcastle United to north London on Sunday fresh off their fortunate draw with reigning treble winners Manchester City. Spurs were out-played at the City of Manchester Stadium, but got some luck and an assist from VAR.
They will host a Newcastle site that, early on at least, looks like a good bet for relegation. The Magpies have lost both of their games so far, including a clash against newly promoted Norwich City where they looked especially dreadful. It’s been a rough start for new Toon manager Steve Bruce.
In looking at the team news for this one, Spurs return the services of forward Heung-Min Son, who finished serving his suspension. He’s expected to play major minutes, and perhaps make a first team appearance. English midfielder Dele Alli is still hampered by his chronic hamstring.
Projected first team right back Juan Foyth has finished serving his suspension, but he’s out of commission due to his ankle injury. Deadline day acquisition Ryan Sessesgnon continues to battle a hamstring injury.
For Newcastle, striker Joelinton is fit while fellow summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin is a doubt, due to a hamstring issue. Former Tottenham man DeAndre Yedlin remains out with a knee injury. Rafa Benitez’s former club spent money this off-season, but it certainly has not generated any results yet.
Right now, on multiple levels, the club based at St. James’ Park is a mess. There’s a revolt Tyneside against owner Mike Ashley right now.
