The Sunday headliner of this Premier League weekend is a rematch of last year’s UEFA Champions League final, as Tottenham Hotspur visit Liverpool FC. As you obviously remember, the Reds took that one in Madrid, and they’re heavily favored to win this one too.
Both sides enter this match having routed European opposition in midweek, and those big blowout victories were needed too as both teams got off to a slow start in UCL play. In terms of the league however, these two sides are having diametrically opposed seasons so far.
It wasn’t until this past Sunday that Liverpool finally dropped points, and they have a decent sized lead at the top of the table.
As for Spurs, well, it’s been a rough month domestically. That said, let’s look at the team news for this one, starting first with the visitors. Team Captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris remains out long term, but he is the only major absentee here.
With that in mind, the question then becomes who does manager Mauricio Pochettino start in an effort to rotate the squad? Or does he just stick with what works and go with the lineup that dominated Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday?
For Liverpool, central defender Joel Matip continues recovering from the chronic knee problem that he suffered heading into the international break. He’s a doubt for this one.
Elsewhere Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced out of the midweek Champions League trip due to an illness, but manager Jurgen Klopp said he’s good to go.
