Mohamed Salah to Finally Undergo Liverpool Medical on Thursday, Complete £39m Deal

The best things in life are usually worth waiting for. Egyptian Winger Mohamed Salah, it was initially reported, was set to undergo his Liverpool medical and complete the move to Anfield on Tuesday. Then the process was held up, and new reports claimed it was all going to go down on Wednesday.

Today, new reports in many outlets, say it’s all on for Thursday, so we’ll see if the third time is the charm here. Will we see photos of Salah’s car at Melwood and snaps of him in his new red shirt by this time tomorrow?

The Telegraph seems to think so. Here’s what they’re reporting right now in regards to Mohamed Salah:

Liverpool medical will take place on Merseyside on Thursday, with the Egyptian heading to Anfield in a £39 million move.

Salah will become the second signing of the summer for manager Jurgen Klopp, following Dominic Solanke’s move from Chelsea. The switch from Roma makes Salah the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, although that could prove to be a short-term record given the club’s current targets.

Liverpool first bid for Salah three years ago when he moved from Basel to Chelsea for £12 million. Going into this transfer window he was a primary target for Klopp.

As the deal isn’t completely official yet, we’ve also seen some dispute in regards to total price. Other outlets quote £34 or £35 million, and an additional £4 million in add-ons. The final amount will determine what record(s) this deal breaks. Some publications said he may tie or exceed Sadio Mane for most expensive African player in Liverpool history.

Others say the final price will exceed Christian Benteke for most expensive transfer acquisition in club history overall.

While Salah brings a lot to the Liverpool attack, and this will certainly upgrade their options as the position, there is one part of this deal to nitpick.

A lot of Liverpool fans might not be so crazy about the idea of having another player who will have to miss out on key games in mid-season to go serve in the Africa Cup of Nations.
