Manchester United Officially Rollout Harry Maguire Acquisition

On Friday we learned that Manchester United and Leicester City had finally reached an agreement for the transfer of Harry Maguire. And with that, one of the most tedious transfer sagas of the summer came to an end, and all it took was a transfer fee of £80 million that breaks the current world record for a defender, currently held by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk (£75 million).

Over the weekend, photos and videos emerged of Maguire conducting his United medical examination (spoiler alert: he passed!) and today brought Old Trafford formally rolling him out to the public as the newest member of the team.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me and played a part in my career.

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two seasons,” reads a quote attributed to Maguire on the club’s official webpage.”

“However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.”

The 26-year-old English centre back has signed a deal that will run for six seasons.

“From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started.”

“Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the game today and I am delighted we have secured his signature,” reads the statement attributed to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“He is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch, with the ability to remain calm under pressure – coupled with his composure on the ball and a huge presence in both boxes – I can see he will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.”

“He has a great personality and is a fantastic addition to the club.”

While with Leicester, Harry Maguire featured 76 times, scoring five goals and helping the Foxes to two finishes in the upper half of the league.
