Harry Maguire Undergoes Man United Medical Ahead of £80m Transfer

Share

News broke Friday that Manchester United and Leicester City have finally reached an agreement on the Harry Maguire transfer deal. Widespread reports indicate that the transfer fee is worth £80 million, which breaks the current world record for a defender, currently held by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk (£75 million).

There are still some final touches to be placed on this summer transfer window piece of business, including Maguire’s United medical. The Mirror has a report on that today, with photos of the 26-year-old leaving United’s Carrington training ground complex in the Range Rover that he came in.

The Mirror writes:

In the back seat of the car there was a United branded bag, which could have his new club gear inside, along with a Gucci carrier.

It is currently unknown if he passed the medical, but having spent pre-season at the Foxes he is likely to be in good shape.

Yes, it would be absolutely stunning if an issue actually arose with the English international’s fitness or health. With all the loose ends being tied up this weekend, one can reasonably expect a formal announcement and/or unveiling with all the branding imagery of a product rollout tomorrow.

Also, here’s the video of Maguire at United’s training facility via Sky Sports:

On Friday night, after news of the deal broke, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers spoke about what a great player Maguire is, and what incredible business was done here.

“The clubs have agreed [a fee] and there’s still some work for it to go through. There’s still a bit to go in terms of Harry’s medical and whatever personal things to sort out, but it is what it is,” the Northern Irishman said after preseason friendly win.

“I think it’s an incredible piece of business. This is a guy [Maguire] that knows there has been interest all through the summer and he’s been super professional.”

“He’s been with his teammates right the way through and been a really, really good guy.”

United fans are somewhat divided over the how big an addition this deal is, and there is a strong majority opinion that believes United grossly overpaid here.

Rodgers is very high though on the central defender that he has lost from his team.

“He’s a special player, he’s not a player that we would want to lose. But obviously any player will have a valuation and if ever that is met then of course there’s a discussion between clubs and whether the player wants to stay or go,” the Foxes boss added.
