Liverpool came from behind last weekend to top Burnley 2-1 and stayed firmly in the battle for the top-4.
This week, they travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City in a crucial battle of top-6 sides.
Simon Mignolet didn’t make a save against Burnley, but had one of his better games of the season in terms of playing crosses and his distribution. He will need to continue his strong play against a talented City squad.
Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip and James Milner will all continue to start for the Reds. Liverpool got some good news this week when Dejan Lovren was able to play 60 minutes for the U-23s and came through healthy. He should get the start without any setbacks.
Liverpool will continue to be without Jordan Henderson, who is battling a foot injury. The Reds have gotten strong contributions from Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum in his absence. Can had the game-winner against Burnley and seems to be fitting in nicely in the role at the No. 6.
There are big concerns for Liverpool in their attack.
Daniel Sturridge will be out as he continues to suffer from an injury. Roberto Firmino was unable to play against Burnley, and faces a late fitness test to see if he can play on Sunday. Divock Origi got the start against Burnley, but has missed training time this week after falling ill.
If Liverpool can’t start Firmino or Origi, they will most likely move Mane further forward and insert Ben Woodburn into the starting line-up.
