Today saw Liverpool formally introduce their very first signing of the summer- Sepp van den Berg, a 17-year-old PEC Zwolle central defender. According to The Guardian, this transfer deal is worth £1.79 million. Sepp has passed his medical and signed his contract with the Merseyside club, but the deal won’t be officially complete until July, due its being subject to international clearance.

“It’s just an amazing feeling,” Van den Berg told the club’s official website. “It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I am really excited.”

“I’ve seen what kind of players from the Academy grew into the first team here. It is unbelievable, especially when this kind of big club does that.

“Of course, the trainer [Jürgen Klopp] is a great guy and one of the reasons they are successful – and also one of the reasons I came here.

“I think this is the best place for me to grow and hopefully play a lot of games here.”

We had an exclusive with Ian Rush, and in the Q&A with the club’s all-time leading scorer said that he expects a couple signings this window. It is expected that the names could be bigger than Van Den Berg next time, although it’s worth noting that this kid was also heavily pursued by Bayern Munich and Ajax.

Also, just this past weekend, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said his club must spend big in the transfer windows.

Obviously, this is not a big money deal, but perhaps those more expensive transactions are on the way soon.
