The future of Alexis Sanchez has been one of the hottest conversation topics this season at Arsenal, as he potentially moves closer and closer to the Emirates exit door. Manchester City made a bid to acquire his services this summer, but the two sides were unable to hammer out an agreement before the deadline passed.
Much has been made of Alexis’ relationship with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, with persistent reports of a rift between the two men being prevalent at times this season. Naturally, Wenger wasn’t completely thrilled to answer questions on this topic.
Wenger has consistently maintained that Sanchez won’t be sold in the January transfer window next month, but if he isn’t transferred, the north London side will most likely lose him for nothing in the summer. Wenger was asked about the current mindset of Alexis Sanchez, as well as the possibility of the forward being shipped out next month.
“Look, every press conference has to represent a psychological problem,” the Frenchman responded after vanquishing Crystal Palace 3-2. The match saw Wenger equal Sir Alex Ferguson for the most games managed in Premier League history.
“If we could talk about football, it would be better. I’m not a specialist in psychology, I’m here to comment on the game.”
Later, Wenger was asked about Gunners players appearing disinterested in celebrating Alexis Sanchez ‘ goals, and if there’s some discord within the team.
“No, not at all. I did not see that,” he answered.
“I am not fearful (of a bid for Sanchez in the next window), but that is a subject that will turn up because of his contract situation.”
“I have said that many times since the start of the season so I can only repeat what I have said.”
