It’s been an extremely dull January transfer window, with only some minor deals being closed here and there. Today, it looks like we can add another transaction to the list. Chelsea is apparently closing their first major deal of the transfer window. Midfielder Ramires is close to joining Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning for £25m ($35.6million), according to Sky sources.
Ramires just signed a new four-year contract extension with Chelsea in October. He joined the Blues from Benfica, for £20 million in 2010. Ramires has started just seven games this season, as the Blues have had an awful title defense. They haven’t looked like defending champions at all.
Jiangsu finished ninth in China’s top tier in 2015 and are managed by former Blues defender Dan Petrescu. So there’s the connection that got the Ramires deal done. Maybe he’ll get more playing time at his new side? Ramires is going to a winner as Jiangsu won the Chinese Cup in 2015; the best season in club history.
