Forever icon of both Manchester United and the England National Team David Beckham is getting his MLS soccer franchise off the ground in America. It will be based in Miami, Florida and does not have a team nickname as of yet. Although David Beckham did say he hopes Sir Alex Ferguson will manage the team.
Becks is also working out some of the financing issues and trying to secure a stadium deal for the future Major League Soccer team.
Check out the full page ad that Beckham took out in the Miami Herald to increase awareness of himself and his goals. It helps that one man hoping to join up with David Beckham in this endeavor is the King himself. Yes, reigning NBA MVP and NBA Champion Lebron James of the Miami Heat is looking to be involved.
“Hopefully I can be,” James told Reuters when asked if he was involved in Beckham’s bid.
“Right now, there are some things that need to be worked out but I think it’s exciting for the city of Miami.”
LBJ is a minority owner United’s biggest rival in the English Premier League, Liverpool F.C. James has said in the past that his interest in and knowledge of soccer has really grown and that his kids love the game.
“David Beckham has become a good friend of mine over the last few years and Miami is a great town for soccer,” he said.
David Beckham joined the MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007, retired last May and reportedly holds a $25 million option in his MLS contract to start a new MLS franchise. The biggest international icon of an international game, imagine what he could accomplish when joining forces with James.
Lebron is likewise a huge global brand in a game that is immensely popular across the globe.
