From semi-famous to Masters Champion, the evolution of Adam Scott

evolution of Adam Scott

Believe it or not, there are two relatively famous men named Adam Scott. One is known for being married to Leslie Knope on the American comedy series, Parks and Recreation, and the other is a top-ten golfer who hails from the Land Under.

The actor Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt on Parks and Rec) even had something to say about the matter back in 2009:

“We’re both semi-famous within our little subcultures but neither one of us is a global mainstream behemoth. Overall, I’d say he’s way more famous than I am. I think the main difference between the other Adam Scott and me is that I’m the one who doesn’t give a shit about golf. I have absolutely no interest in the game whatsoever.”

No disrespect to the actor’s lack of golf knowledge, but Adam Scott the golfer just became that “global mainstream behemoth,” with the addition of a Masters Green Jacket to his wardrobe. Adam Scott with the Green Jacket

While the actor is known for his vast knowledge of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek and his failure as a mayor of a small Minnesota town, the golfer is known for his broomstick putter and numerous close finishes at major golf tournaments.

Less than a year ago, Scott threw away a major win at the Open Championship when he bogeyed the last four holes to fall to Ernie Els by just one stroke. It was only two years ago when Scott finished tied for second at the Masters.

The single aspect holding the 32 year old back from emerging as one of the best in the world has always been his inconsistent putting.

Today was a different story as Scott made two of the biggest putts in Sunday’s final round. The first being on a 20 foot birdie on hole 18 to take a one shot lead over country-mate Jason Day (finished) and Angel Cabrera (one hole left to play).

Cabrera came raging back with an approach shot from the Argentinian Gods to force a playoff. After going shot-for-shot through one playoff hole, Scott made a bone-chilling 12 foot birdie to become the first Australian to ever win the Masters.

After winning the tournament for not only himself, but for an entire nation, he gave credit to a legend of the game who’s also an Aussie:

“Australian is a proud sporting nation, and this is one notch in the belt we never got,” Scott said. “It’s amazing that it came down to me today. But there’s one guy who inspired a nation of golfers, and that’s Greg Norman. He’s been incredible to me and all the great golfers. Part of this belongs to him.”

The only thing left for the new global behemoth is an appearance on Parks and Recreation right?
