Former NFL Cornerback Charles Tillman is wearing many different hats during his retirement. He’s certainly keeping busy, whether it’s being a self-described “Mr. Mom,” making a foray into acting or his broadcasting gig with FOX Sports.

He’s encountered a bit of misadventure within the show-business/media realm.

We caught up with the Chicago Bears legend Thursday night as he hosted the fifth annual Charles Tillman Celebrity Pro BOWLer Tournament at Kings Bowl in Rosemont. Proceeds from the evening’s festivities support the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation.

“Live TV is no joke,”  Peanut said regarding his most high profile post-football endeavor, his analysis work.

“I had one ‘oh s-h-i-t’ moment, oh crap, where I lost my focus and I wasn’t paying attention, and Charissa Thompson, one of our hosts, she said something and I was like ‘huh, uh, uh, uh, huh?’ I had a couple ‘uhs’ and I sounded like the biggest village idiot ever,” Tillman said.

“Then watching the show I had to do some coaching on my own, and I ended up picking it up, figuring it out and I really enjoyed it. FOX is a great company to work for.”

“I actually thought I was terrible at broadcasting in the beginning, but as the season went on I got more comfortable with the flow of television.”

Charles Tillman also discussed his first attempts at acting.

“So I did a Sharknado, and I was an air traffic controller, and I was so bad in the Sharknado that they cut my lines. I’m just going off what I know and that’s how bad I sucked,” he put it bluntly.

“God awful, in Sharknado, and it’s already a terrible movie and they cut my lines. So that shows you how bad I am.”

He described Sharknado: the 4th awakens as a learning curve for him, and how it then better prepared him for the next project- an advertisement for the National Peanut Board.

“Now that really was fun because it really gave me the freedom to just be my goofy, quirky self, and it was a fun, goofy way for people to show their love for peanuts and peanut butter.”

First held in 2012 at Kings’ Rosemont location, the Charles Tillman Celebrity Pro BOWLer Tournament has attracted hundreds and raised more than $480,000 in support of the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation, which provides opportunities and resources to underprivileged children and their families.

Four days after last year’s event, Peanut announced his retirement from the NFL.

“Retirement is good I’m having fun, enjoying being Mr. Mom for the most part,” Tillman revealed before listing some of the activities that comprise his daily routine:

“cooking dinner every night, taking the kids to school, soccer practices, soccer tryouts, guitar lessons, taekwondo, dance, the whole gambit.”
