Liverpool FC legend Ian Rush will soon have yet another plaudit to add to his already lengthy list. The 57-year-old Welshman is Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer, having accumulated 346 goals across all competitions at the Merseyside club.

He scored a record 25 in the Merseyside derby against Everton alone. He was the all-time leading scorer for Wales as well, until 2018, when Gareth Bale surpassed the total of 28 that he accumulated between 1980 and 1996. And now Ian Rush will throw out the first ball when the Chicago Cubs host the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night in the second of the two teams’ four clashes this season.

Here are some more FYIs on it

Wednesday, June 19, Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox, 7:05 p.m.

·         Pregame: Crosstown Series pregame festivities and autograph signing with Hall of Famer Lee Smith in the SoDoSoPa thing they build adjacent to the park

·         First pitch: Liverpool Football Club alumni Ian Rush

·         Broadcast: ABC7, WRTO 1200, Cubs.com

So why is Ian Rush going to be here/what’s the angle/is he plugging something?

Yes, Liverpool are embarking on a three city preseason tour of the United States this summer, with two of the three matches being played in baseball venues, Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium. The third will be played less than a two hour drive from Chicago, July 19th at Notre Dame Stadium, when the Reds take on Borussia Dortmund.

Go here for our exclusive with Vladimir Smicer, which covers the tour in more detail.
