With not one, but two goals yesterday, Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced to the world that reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. Yes, it was against lowly Swansea City, quite possibly the worst side in the Premier League, but hey, an end to a long scoring drought is still an end to a long scoring drought.
Unfortunately, Ibrahimovic got sent off due to booking over a 76th-minute tangle with Swansea City’s Leroy Fer. Ibra’s yellow card means that he’ll be out with a suspension when United play their next league fixture, vs Arsenal, on November 19th.
Ibrahimovic apologized for his suspension, and he admits he was in the wrong.
“You know what? Every time I try to play my game by being strong and going into the tackles, or whatever it is, I get a yellow card,” he told MUTV.
“I don’t know what the explanation was because I think I was too tired and I didn’t hear him [referee Neil Swarbrick].”
“It is what it is. In England, the football is hard, it’s physical. I just have to accept it. I’ve got to be professional. I’m sorry I am suspended for the next game. I wish I wasn’t as it’s a game I really wanted to play in.
“But I have trust in my teammates and the team and I know they can do fine also without me,” Ibrahimovic concluded.
Ibrahimovic and company are currently 6th in the table with 18 points, three points behind fifth place Tottenham. Arsenal are fourth, with 24 points.
