Clint Dempsey, captain of the U.S. Men’s National team, and former Tottenham Hotspur forward once punched out a window because he was so angry that he did not get to start in a soccer match.

In a interview with talkSPORT, former Captain of Fulham Daniel Murphy discussed a moment where Dempsey was so angry he punched through a glass window, bloodying his hand in the process.

According to Murphy’s story, Dempsey was livid after being told he wouldn’t start the Europa League semi-final in 2010 just hours before the match.

“Basically half his finger was off and you could see his tendon. Glass shattered – it was some punch by the way. Blood was going everywhere. This was all because he wanted to play of course,” said Murphy.

After calming down, Dempsey was bandaged up and came on a substitute for Fulham’s 2-1 win over Hamburg. (h/t Fox Sports)

On August 31, 2012, Dempsey joined Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year contract for a fee believed to be in the region of £6 million. The deal made Clint Dempsey the highest salaried US soccer player of all time. During the U.S.-Ghana match on June 16, Dempsey scored 30 seconds into the group play match, making it the fastest goal in American World Cup history and fifth fastest goal in World Cup history.
